Repositioning Finance as a Strategic Change Agent
how investment-based budgeting can transform the role of financial staff
Speech Abstract
Redesigning the budget process can give financial staff an opportunity to rise above their traditional operational role and contribute directly to business strategies.
Too often, people view financial staff as administrative overhead. Or worse, finance professionals may find themselves in an adversarial relationship with the people they support, perhaps because they're thrust into the role of controlling (rather than helping) others.
Investment-based budgeting (IBB) can turn this around. By leading this change in the budget process, financial staff can contribute directly to the strategic alignment of the entire organization. And instead of controlling others, they can facilitate a process that gives line management the controls they need. They may even be seen as "heroes" since IBB matches expectations to resources, eliminating impossible backlogs and unreasonable demands.
This session explains what's involved in implementing IBB, and how doing so can reposition financial staff as strategic change agents.
