The Business-Within-a-Business Paradigm
a vision of empowered, entrepreneurial organizations
Speech Abstract
A transformational leader starts by establishing a clear goal -- a vision of the end-state. This inspires people, buys time by illustrating the magnitude of the goal, and guides each decision along the way toward a common goal.
A powerful, lasting, and inspiring vision can be constructed on the foundation of the business-within-a-business (BWB) paradigm. Treating every group as an entrepreneurship has powerful implications for business processes, governance mechanisms, accountability, customer focus, teamwork, frugality, and innovation.
The BWB paradigm guides decisions on structure, resource-governance processes, and culture. It resolves confusion about the role of committees and control over resources and priorities. And it leads to an empowered, entrepreneurial organization that attracts and retains the best people, and that performs consistently well at all its missions.
This session defines the BWB paradigm, explores its implications, and suggests a practical way to implement it.
